Retired Garda Successfully Claims Compensation for Injury

A former Garda has been awarded €40,000 in compensation after he sustained neck and arm injuries in the apprehension of a motorbike thief.

59-year-old Eamonn Fitzgerald of Cork was tossed head-over-heels onto some concrete steps by the thief. The victim suffered injuries to his neck, left arm and shoulder and was unable to work for six weeks.

After hearing about his ordeal Ms Justice Mary Irvine awarded Mr Fitzgerald €40,000 in compensation which will be paid by the Minister for Finance.
